Stitched Canvases
Years of working with children in pop up art rooms across North Carolina has offered me a steady diet of exuberant color and urgent penciled lines. I find joy and inspiration in what children see and what they make. I rely on this lively community of artists to help keep my own visual ideas open. My canvases begin by screen printing small and large grids with layers of textile ink. Dropping in a few sweeping and crooked stitched lines eventually suggests a setting; a garden, a dwelling, a path. These simple shapes invite in others. More ink. More thread.
